Richard Franklin

Richard E. Franklin Jr (born February 15, 1981 in Birmingham) is president of the Birmingham Federation of Teachers and a former teacher and swimming coach.

Franklin graduated from Parker High School in 1999 and Lawson State Community College in 2004. He began coaching for Birmingham Park and Recreation Board in 2005 and joined Birmingham City Schools in 2006. He was elected president of the Birmingham Federation of Teachers in 2010 and serves on the Racial Equity task force for the national organization.

Franklin and his wife, Tameka were married in November 2020. They have four children.
