Rollie Hill

Rollie Wayne Hill, also known as the Cookie Man (born 1935 in Roanoke - died December 15, 2007) was a diesel mechanic and volunteer.

Hill grew up in Randolph County, the son of textile workers Rollie Hedrick and Nellie P. Tittle Hill in Roanoke. He jointed the Navy and attended trade school to learn to become a mechanic. During a visit home from the Navy he met his future wife, Jacqueline Bowen, on a bus. They had one son, Vander. Hill became a Scoutmaster during his son's years in the Boy Scouts.

Hill became known as the "Cookie Man" when he began giving out homemade cookies, first during a traffic jam on I-20 and later during delivery runs for Greater Birmingham Ministries and dinners at St Paul's United Methodist Church in Center Point.

Jacqueline died in 2004, and Hill died of cancer in December 2007. He is interred at Sunrise Memory Gardens in Pinson.
