Shoe Center was a shoe store that was located at 2020 2nd Avenue North near the Melba Theater. It was opened in March 1949 by former department store show buyer Izz Eubanks. The store featured samples and "cancellation" shoes that were ordered but never received by larger retailers.
The store was renamed The Shoe Tree around 1955 and a neon sign featuring a palm tree laden with high-heeled shoes was installed.
