The Southern Life & Health Insurance Company is a small insurance firm founded in Birmingham and now operating as an affiliate of the Madison Standard Corporation of Madison, Wisconsin. Its local office is located at 600 University Park Place off Lakeshore Drive in Homewood.

The firm was founded in 1890 and incorporated in 1908 by C. P. Orr. It had its headquarters in the Southern Life & Health Insurance building at at 2320 7th Avenue South and later at 2101 Highland Avenue.

When it was sold to Standard Security Holding Company of New York in 1981 it had annual revenues of $38 million. Standard Security Life Insurance, part of the Independence Holding Company, which operates its affiliate insurers under the masthead of Madison National.

Southern Life & Health was listed in 2009 among the clients of swindler Bernard Madoff, who admitted to over $50 billion in losses to investors in his fraudulent funds.
