The 1885 date conflicts with what is said in the Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service article. That article would also seem to conflict with itself regarding the first chief and when the department was organized (1872 as stated or 1882 as given for the first chief on the list)? --Lkseitz 08:20, 17 March 2011 (PDT)
- I don't have it all worked out, but there's a lag between having a "Birmingham Fire Department" in existence and the later organization of them as a "professional department" --Dystopos 08:27, 17 March 2011 (PDT)
