No early anchors

  • I'm wondering about the statement, "the mall had no major department store anchors until the mid-1960s and 1970s." If it's correct, a diagram of the mall c. 1960 at the Mall Hall of Fame blog shows J. C. Penney in a major space. This is backed up by a 1960 newspaper article mentioning the manager of J. C. Penney. --Lkseitz 06:41, 29 February 2008 (PST)
    • Yes, it's true that JC Penney's was an original Eastwood Mall tenant when it opened in 1960. I guess it was not considered an "anchor" because it was smack in the middle of the Mall, not at the end as Pizitz was after the 1966 expansion. Plus I don't remember the Penney's being all that big either. I would guess that the J.J. Newberry's was bigger and that was not considered an anchor either. --ExPat 13:02, 8 April 2010 (PST)
