Tau Poco

Tau Poco is a casual international restaurant located at 121 20th Street North in downtown Birmingham. Owned by chef Chris Dupont and managed by Cafe Dupont veteran Taylor Joiner, the 16-seat eatery opened in 2013 in the space vacated by the New York Style Delicatessen earlier that year.

Dupont's and Joiner's concept for Tau Poco ("little vessel" in Vietnamese) was to bring together street food traditions from around the world showcasing a variety of flavors with a limited palette of components. He was inspired by New York chef David Chang's influential "Momofuku" chain of eateries. Customers select a "vessel" or wrap such as Venezuelan cachapa, Moroccan msemen, Korean pork bun, bibb lettuce and fill it with a selection of prepared meats, vegetables, sauces and sides.

The restaurant, which Dupont likens to a "food truck without the truck", opened with an initial investment of less than $15,000. Véronique Vanblaere decorated the interior with hand-painted signs and murals in vivid colors.
