Bobby Timmons

Robert Dean "Bobby" Timmons (born July 3, 1932; died March 22, 2024 in Prattville, Autauga County) was a two-term state legislator and long-time director of the Alabama Sheriffs Association.

Timmons grew up in Ensley. He married his wife Emily in 1964. They had two children, Todd and Leslie.

Timmons served as a special assistant to Jefferson County Sheriff Mel Bailey, and later as a legislative aide to Governors George Wallace and Don Siegelman. He also traveled with Wallace during his presidential campaigns.

Timmons represented Jefferson County (Place No. 6) in the Alabama House of Representatives from 1970 to 1974. During his last year in office, he was named "Man of the Year" by the Alabama State Fraternal Order Of Police.

In 1975 Timmons was asked to "temporarily" take charge of the Alabama Sheriffs Association, and remained in that role until he retired in 2022. At the time he was the oldest living member of the National Sheriffs Association.

Timmons died in 2024. He was survived by his two children, four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
