ChelseaFest
ChelseaFest and the Big KaBoom, originally Chelsea CityFest, is an annual civic festival sponsored by the city of Chelsea. It is held on the Saturday before Independence Day and features a children's parade and activities, live music, food vendors, and a fireworks display.
In 2015 the event was held in the park area of the Chelsea Park subdivision, between Ashworth Drive, Parkmont Way and Parkmont Lane, with the fireworks launched from the nearby ridge near the Chelsea Water Tower.
Since 2017 the site for the event has been a large open field owned by Barber Companies behind Chelsea Corners Way and alongside Chelsea Road (Shelby County Road 47), and backing up to the tracks of the CSX Lineville Subdivision. City of Chelsea GIS coordinator Gerri Roberts has headed up planning for the event. The non-profit KOOL 96.9 FM (WXLY-LP) broadcasts a musical track synchronized with the fireworks show launched from behind the Chelsea Fire Station on Chesser Drive by Pyro Shows of Alabama.
Events
- 2018: Trotline and Nacho Mama performed on the main stage.
- 2020: Trotline and Nacho Daddy performed on the main stage. Chef Rodney Scott served food and demonstrated recipes. The bicycle parade, face painting and inflatables were suspended to help promote social distancing during the COVID pandemic.
- 2021: Fake News, The Marty McFly's and Trotline performed on the main stage.
- 2022: Fake News and A-Town from Atlanta, Georgia performed on the main stage.
- 2023: The Park Band and Lexi Frederick performed on the main stage.
