Ensley Community House

The Ensley Community House was a community center built in Ensley Park in 1942 for $20,000 which was raised by the citizens of Ensley with help from the city of Birmingham and the federal government.

The two-story building featured an open brick arcade at the ground level and a shallow hipped roof. It was dedicated on Monday February 23, 1942 with a ceremony that featured "dignitaries from every section of the city, county and state." The main speaker at the dedication was economist Sherman Rogers.

The center, along with a 6-acre section of Ensley Park on which it sat, was sold to the Alabama Highway Department for construction of I-59. A new Ensley Community Center was constructed in the park in 1965.
