John H. Taylor was Commissioner of Public Safety on the Birmingham City Commission from 1917 to 1921 and again for two more terms, from 1925 to 1933.
Taylor lost to former Alabama State House of Representatives state representative Bull Connor in a runoff during the 1937 Birmingham municipal election.
