Justin Fuller

Justin Fuller Jr (born July 26, 1926 in Birmingham; died November 23, 2020 in Annapolis, Maryland) was a US Navy officer, engineer, historian, and college professor.

Fuller was the son of Justin and Laura Oliver Fuller of Birmingham. He attended the Citadel in Charleston, South Carolina and then enrolled in the V-12 College Navy Training Program at the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta. He served in the US Navy and Naval Reserves from 1944 to 1955, mainly based in Norfolk, Virginia. He later worked as an engineering supervisor for the Alabama Gas Corporation before turning to the study of history.

Fuller earned a master's in history at Emory University in Atlanta and a PhD at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. His doctoral dissertation was "A History of the Tennessee Coal, Iron, and Railroad Company." He taught at the University of Georgia and was made a full professor at the University of Montevallo, where he taught from 1964 until his retirement in 1994. He chaired Montevallo's Social Science Department.

Fuller served on the board of the Alabama Historical Association. He and his first wife, Joyce, had one daughter, Elizabeth. After Joyce's death in 1989 he remarried, to the former Betty Garber. Fuller left Birmingham to live with family during the 2020 Coronavirus pandemic. He died in November 2020. His ashes were interred in the columbarium at St Mary's-on-the-Highlands Episcopal Church.
