Lissa LeGrand

Lissa M. LeGrand (born April 16, 1954) is a bassist and long-time announcer for WBHM-FM.

LeGrand is the daughter of former Birmingham Post-Herald editor Duard Le Grand and his wife Elna. She earned a bachelor of arts at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee and also studied at the Grove School of Music in Van Nuys, California. In the late 1970s, LeGrand led a theater company in Philadelphia which performed on stage and in radio dramas on WXPN-FM, a public radio outreach of the University of Pennsylvania.

LeGrand moved back to Birmingham in 1981 and accepted a position as overnight announcer at WBHM. She introduced "All Things Considered" and read local news, then played classical music until midnight, followed by an hour of jazz. In addition to on-air announcing, LeGrand has spent time as a music programmer and operations manager, and operating the board for the Alabama Radio Reading Service. She also produced features for the station's "Tapestry" program.

In the 1980s LeGrand was involved with Magnolia Productions, and played bass for the rock band Marathon, taking leave from radio to go on tour. She continues to perform with the house orchestra at Virginia Samford Theater. She also composes music and writes.
