Spud Davis

Virgil Lawrence "Spud" Davis (born December 20, 1904 in Birmingham; died August 14, 1984 in Birmingham) was a catcher in Major League Baseball for the St Louis Cardinals, Philadelphia Phillies, Cincinnati Reds, and Pittsburgh Pirates. He also served as the manager of the Pirates in 1946.

Davis was inducted into the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame in 1977. He is interred at Elmwood Cemetery.
