Union Cemetery

Union Cemetery is an inactive cemetery located in a wooded area north of Council Avenue backing up to a small tributary of Opossum Creek in unincorporated Jefferson County between Brighton and Midfield.

On October 25, 2022 a fire was reported in the area and crews from the Brighton, Lipscomb and Birmingham fire departments responded, along with representatives of the Alabama Forestry Commission. Around 20 graves were found, some with collapsed vaults. The oldest visible headstone dated to 1908.
