YMCA Downtown Youth Center

The YMCA Downtown Youth Center operated by YMCA of Greater Birmingham at 2400 7th Avenue North, just north of Marconi Park, in Birmingham's Central City neighborhood.

The building, designed by Cohen Carnaggio Reynolds architects, was constructed in 2006. It includes a gymnasium, locker rooms, dance studio, teaching kitchen, library, computer lab, arts & crafts room, and a 30-foot climbing tower in the lobby. The center also has an outdoor swimming pool, running track and athletic fields.

The center, operated by executive director Terri Harvill, offers pre-school, after-school and summer educational programs as well as a summer day camp and various recreational opportunities, including aquatics. For teenagers, the Downtown Youth Center provides leadership and college and career readiness programs. Other programs support community health and children in foster care. The facility is also available for scheduled private events.
