The Birmingham Genealogical Society is a non-profit education and research organization which meets on the 4th Saturday of each month (January through October) at the Linn-Henley Research Library. Members teach classes in genealogical research and documentation, give presentations and volunteer their help with library and archive projects. The group publishes the quarterly journal Pioneer Trails which documents research done by members and publishes genealogical queries. A Birmingham African-American Genealogy Study Group was added to the group more recently.

The Society was organized on March 15, 1959, incorporated on June 28, 1969, and granted tax-exempt status on November 22, 1977.
