Steve French
Steve French (born May 22, 1962 in Lynchburg, Virginia) is an insurance executive and former political consultant and director of the Alabama Republican Party. He has represented District 15 in the Alabama State Senate since 1998.
French graduated from Auburn University with a bachelor's degree in personnel and industrial relations. He is an executive with Turner Insurance and Bonding.
French was director of the Alabama Republican Party from 1988 to 1991 and a regional director for the Republican National Committee from 1991 to 1992, after which he opened his own political consulting firm. He was the Alabama Campaign Manager for President George H. W. Bush's 1992 re-election campaign, organizational chairman for George W. Bush's 2000 presidential campaign, and congressional district chair for Bush's 2004 re-election campaign.
French defeated Liz Moore in the 1998 Republican primary and and was unopposed in the general election for the seat left open when four-term incumbent John Amari campaigned unsuccessfully for Lieutenant Governor. Amari challenged French unsuccessfully in the 2002 primary. French was unopposed in the 2006 primary and faces challenger Slade Blackwell in 2010.
French and his wife Betsy have four daughters. They attend Canterbury United Methodist Church.
