Responses

On December 19, police chief Johnnie Johnson told department heads that he wanted them to report not just on what had happened in their precincts, but on what they were planning to do to turn things around.

On January 2, 1996, mayor Richard Arrington presented a $4.2 million crime-fighting plan to the Birmingham City Council which involved passing two new laws, adding 80 new police officers, assigning full-time officers to public housing projects, and instituting a 9:00 PM curfew for minors on school nights.
