The Brighton Police Department is a professional law enforcement agency operated by the City of Brighton out of Brighton City Hall at 3700 Main Street. The chief is Ray Hubbart.

Until the Brighton Fire Station was completed in June 2010 the department shared a garage with the Brighton Fire Department. The Brighton City Jail is furnished with mattresses donated by the City of Hueytown.

In 2015 the department employed four officers and patrolled 16 hours a day, with the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department handling calls after hours.

On April 4, 2016 all four of the department's police vehicles broke down. Jefferson County Commissioner Sandra Little Brown asked the Commission to help. The five members each contributed $1,200 from their discretionary funds to purchase two surplus vehicles from the county motor pool.
