The Daniel Building was constructed by the Daniel Corporation, beginning in 1967. Progress was delayed as engineers searched for areas of solid bedrock between limestone cavities on which to erect its caissons.

One of the original tenants was Alabama Power. In 1993, Compass Bank purchased the tower and moved their headquarters from the 1967 Central Bank building, which is now an administrative office for UAB. In 2009 the bank changed its signage to reflect its ownership by BBVA.
