The Gardendale Police Department serves the City of Gardendale, north of Birmingham, with a population of nearly 13,000. The department is located in Gardendale City Hall at 970 Main Street. The Chief of Police is Mike Walker.
Organization
The Gardendale Police Department consists of approximately 30 full-time employees plus another 29 part-time employees. The full-time employees include the Chief, patrol officers, two bicycle patrol officers, two investigators, and six dispatchers. The part-time employees include eight school crossing guards, eight reserve officers, and 13 Police Explorers. The latter is made up of 14-to-20-year-old youths and is affiliated with the Boy Scouts of America.
