John Snow Jemison Jr (born 1908; died 1988) was president of the Jemison Investment Company.
Jemison was the son of John and Margaret Pockman Jemison. He graduated from Phillips High School and earned his bachelor's degree at the University of North Carolina in 1931. He began his career as a loan officer for the Bank of The Manhattan Company (now Chase Manhattan Bank) and also worked for Goldman, Sachs & Co. in New York before returning to Birmingham in 1947 as a partner at Hugo Marx & Company.
Jemison married the former Marie Stokes and adopted her two children from an earlier marriage, Dick and Dorothy. The couple also had two children together, John III and Margaret Lloyd. They resided at 2401 Henrietta Road in Redmont Park until 1969, when they moved into a modern-style house designed by Fritz Woehle on Dell Road in Mountain Brook.
Jemison joined his family's investment firm, then called John S. Jemison and Associates, in 1955. The firm purchased the Birmingham Transit Company in 1958 and oversaw the transition from electric "trackless trolleys" to diesel-powered buses. The firm acquired the Pizitz department store chain from Sam and Isadore Pizitz in 1959 and took the Plantation Patterns manufacturing company public, with Jemison as its chairman, in the early 1960s. He served on several other corporate and civic boards, including the board of trustees of the Birmingham University School, and also served as president of the Rotary Club of Birmingham.
Jemison died in 1988 and is buried at Elmwood Cemetery. Jemison was inducted into the 1990 class of the Alabama Business Hall of Fame. The Birmingham Venture Club's "John S. Jemison Award" is named in his honor.
