Rose grew up in Seattle and earned a bachelor's degree in architecture at the University of Oregon. She grew up in a family of talented crafters and became interested in creating leaded, fused, etched and blown glass art. She pursued that interest in college and later through courses at the Pilchuck Glass School in Washington. She developed a particular interest in re-using vintage glass objects and cast-offs collected from antique stores, flea markets, and beaches in ornamental constructions. She has created commissioned work for architectural clients and others, including [[St Andrew's Episcopal Church]]. She exhibited a series of leaded-glass boxes and folding books in a group show of glass art at [[Agnes]] gallery in April [[1997]]. Kathleen Rose-Byington (born June 6, 1967 in Seattle, Washington) is a glass artist and executive director of Bare Hands.
