The SuperJazz Big Band (formerly UAB SuperJazz) is a jazz orchestra based in Birmingham. SuperJazz was the first performing ensemble connected with the Music Department of the University of Alabama at Birmingham. After a 20+ year association with UAB, ties were severed and SuperJazz adopted John Carroll Catholic High School as its home base. Beginning in September 2007, the group moved to Samford University, and now presents concerts four times a year at the new Brock Recital Hall. SuperJazz has remained a very popular jazz orchestra in the Birmingham metro area for more than 30 years.

SuperJazz has performed with many notable jazz artists, including saxophonist Ernie Watts, saxophonist Lou Marini, trumpeter Lew Soloff, vibrophonist / drummer [Chuck Redd], trombonist [Andy Martin] and pianist [Ellis Marsalis]. In 2001, UAB Entertainment Records released a recording titled UAB SuperJazz featuring Ellis Marsalis. The CD, recorded at UAB's Alys Stephens Center for the Performing Arts, features arrangements by founding director Everett Lawler, trombonist Charlie Ard, saxophonist Neil McLean, arranger / educator Steve Sample, Sr and pianist / vocalist Ray Reach. The SuperJazz Big Band has spawned a number of spin-off groups, including the Magic City Jazz Orchestra and the Night Flight Big Band.
