CakEffect was a custom cake bakery owned and operated by Komeh Ottison Davis.

Davis, who studied commercial art at Alabama A&M University, was preparing to enter the legal field when she became inspired by an episode of the television show "Cake Boss" to become a custom cake decorator. She began making cakes from home in 2009 and opened a bake shop at the Valley Mall at 1723 27th Terrace South in Homewood in 2011.

Over the next few years the business successfully expanded into full-service catering and event planning. The business also supports Icing Smiles, a nonprofit that brings cakes to families impacted by critical childhood illness.

In 2017 Davis appeared on the Food Network competition show "Bakers v. Fakers". That same year she was honored by the Alabama Retail Association with a "Retailer of the Year" silver award. In 2018 she participated in Renasent Bank's Entrepreneurial Success Series mentoring program.

In March 2019 she relocated the business to The Village at Brock’s Gap in Hoover. During the COVID-19 pandemic CakEffect was awarded $25,000 as part of Discover's "Eat it Forward" campaign.

Davis closed the bakery and retired from the business in August 2023.
