David Wheeler

David W. Wheeler (born 1950 in Jemison; died March 9, 2022) was an accountant and executive for the Alabama Power Company, a trustee of the University of Montevallo, and a one-term member of the Alabama State House of Representatives for District 47.

Wheeler earned his bachelor's degree in accounting at the University of Montevallo in 1972 and began working for Alabama Power that year. He completed a master's in business administration at Samford University in 1976 and was certified as a management accountant. In 1988 Wheeler was posted to Washington D.C. as Alabama Power's manager of federal affairs. He returned to Alabama in 1993 and later served as director of accounting, finance and regulatory services, serving as the utilities' primary point of contact with the Alabama Public Service Commission. He retired in 2001.

Wheeler was active in the Alabama Republican Party serving as its treasurer and on its steering and executive committees, as well as the Jefferson County Republican Committee. In 2008 Wheeler was appointed to the University of Montevallo Board of Trustees. He chaired the personnel committee and served as vice chair of the executive committee and of the board.

Wheeler was elected to the Alabama House of Representatives as a Republican to the seat formerly held by Jack Williams in the 2018 election. He served on the House's Commerce and Small Business Committee, as well as with the Jefferson County Legislative Delegation. He died in March 2022 while preparing to campaign for re-election.

Wheeler was a member of All Saints Episcopal Church in Homewood, and of the Hoover Country Club. He was survived by his wife, Diane, and daughter, Jessica.
