Jalil

Jalil (born May 9, 2006 at the San Francisco Zoo) is a male reticulated giraffe born to Kristen at the San Francisco Zoo and brought to the Birmingham Zoo in the Spring of 2007. He joined Rowan, who was born in August 2006, as the youngsters in the zoo's giraffe exhibit.

The Zoo held a naming contest for the calf which generated over 1,200 suggestions. Students from the Ramsay High School Interact Club, which is affiliated with the Rotary Club of Shades Valley, entered the winning entry, "Jalil", which means "honored one" in Arabic. The Rotary Club has made a contribution to the zoo to offset the cost of obtaining and keeping the animal.

Jalil fathered a son, Griffin, with Willow in January 2014. He sired a daughter with Ruby in April 2024.
