Qwik Mart/Majik Market

I would not be at all surprised to discover Majik Market (1919) was in the location of the former Qwik Mart (1917). I included the address of Majik Market based on the address of the UPS store, whereas the Qwik Mart address is, I presume, from an 1965 ad. Unfortunately the telephone directories at the Internet Archive seem to be offline at the moment, to so I can't see if the Majik Market address is listed there. --Lkseitz (talk) 21:34, 14 February 2015 (PST)

  • Checked in a 1978 phone book and Majik Market's address was indeed 1917. I'm not sure if this is the reason, but I think the door for Majik Market was at the east end of the building. Whereas, from looking at Google Street View, I think the door for the UPS Store is one bay over, even though it extends to the west end of the building. (I wish I could remember whether Majik Market occupied the whole building or not, but I can't.) --Lkseitz (talk) 06:38, 26 July 2017 (PDT)

Address conundrum

  • Okay, how best to present this on the page? Majik Market was at 1917 and probably extended into at least 1919. The UPS Store's address is 1919, but definitely extends into the bay at 1917. I can list them both at 1917–1919, which indicates they're both in the same space, but it doesn't indicate the differences in their addresses. --Lkseitz (talk) 06:44, 26 July 2017 (PDT)
    • There are many such conundrums with addresses. I have considered (but not implemented) the idea of assigning the "correct" address for organizing the street articles with a note like "(styled 1919)". My most recent conundrum was UAB Urgent Care in Station 121. They use "125 20th Street South" as their address, but are physically located between Glory Bound Gyro Co. (101) and Salon U (109). --Dystopos (talk) 08:45, 26 July 2017 (PDT)
      • So this morning this comes to mind:
  • 1917–1919
    • 1917: Qwik Mart (1950s-1970s), Majik Market (1970s-1980s)
    • 1919: UPS Store (2000s)
The dates are just examples. The real problem, of course, is lacking the hard data on how many addresses each business occupied and the dates. You can look up the dates, maybe, but one might only guess at the addresses. This helps in this particular case. Your UAB Urgent Care problem is something else. --Lkseitz (talk) 07:34, 27 July 2017 (PDT)
        • Yes, that's pretty similar to something I've done downtown, where a building spans several addresses (and I know about it):
  • 1917–1921: Cumbersome Building (built 1928), former site of Cumber & Cumber livery stable (1888-)
    • 1917: Majik and More (2011-), former location of Mumbleypeg (1928), Crabapple News (1933-1937), Stack Mart (1960), Just Majik (1995-2010)
    • 1919: building entrance
    • 1921: vacant, former location of Moriarty's Hats (1928-1950), The Green Cigar (1952-1960s), The More Store (1979-1990), More and More (1992-2008)
          • Hmmm, but you're listing multiple businesses in separate bays on the ground floor of a single building and I'm listing businesses in the same building that happen to use different numbers for their addresses because of which bay they put the entrance in. It's only the lack of a building name on the multiple address line and no overlapping dates that distinguish them. Maybe I need to add a "different businesses had the door in different spots" note to the line or something. --Lkseitz (talk) 06:45, 30 July 2017 (PDT)

Pet Safari

I can't speak to the other businesses in the Markle-Reed Building, but I've confirmed Pet Safari's address was 100 Broadway. --Lkseitz (talk) 06:39, 26 July 2017 (PDT)
