This is a List of Birmingham homicides in 2016. It includes homicide cases occurring within the city limits during the calendar year. Note that a "homicide" refers to the cause of death as determined by a medical examiner, not to the commission of the crime of murder as charged by police and prosecutors.

Two homicides have been reported in the city as of January 8, putting the city on pace for 92 for the year. Based on the 2013 census estimate of 212,113 population, that would represent 43.3 homicides per 100,000 population. Birmingham had 96 homicides in 2015 and a record low of 62 homicides in 2014. The recent record high was 141 in 1992. At this time in 2015 there had been 2 homicides reported.

The city has averaged 7.8 homicides per month, or one every 4.0 days. There were 2 incidents so far in January. The longest stretch without a homicide was the 4 days between January 4 and 8. No violent deaths were reported on Sundays, none on Mondays, none on Tuesdays, none on Wednesdays, 1 on a Thursday, 1 on a Friday and none on Saturdays.

Of the 2 reported homicides, suspects have been identified in 1 case, apprehended in 1, and charged in 1. The police department therefore acknowledges 2 chargeable homicide, of which 2 so far have been classified as murders.

At least one homicide took place inside a home and one at an apartment complex. One was reported in the West Precinct, one in the East Precinct, none in the South Precinct and none in the North Precinct. One death was the result of a domestic dispute and another resulted from a robbery. No victims were male and two were female.
