Trussville Memorial Cemetery (also called Cahawba Cemetery, First Baptist Church Trussville Cemetery or Trussville Cemetery) is a 4-acre cemetery in Trussville formerly associated with the Cahawba Baptist Church, now First Baptist Church Trussville.
Warren Truss was a charter member of Cahawba Baptist Church which was built on part of his 1,000-acre homestead. The location became Main Street (U.S. Highway 11) in the city of Trussville.
The cemetery's first burial, dated to 1829, was Warren Truss' 7-year-old daughter, Zilpha. Several other members of the Truss family were buried with her in a plot shaded by a large Southern magnolia. Over the years more than 900 burials have taken place at the cemetery, including 183 recorded without markers. Many others are marked with fieldstones with names roughly scratched into them. Truss' family deeded the property to the church in 1871.
In 1946 the church moved to its present site at 128 North Chalkville Road. In 1962 attorney Wesley Garrison incorporated the Trussville Memorial Cemetery Association (TMCA) to protect and maintain the property. First Baptist turned over the deed to the property to the association. In November 2016 it was added to the Alabama Historic Cemetery Register. The association sponsored the installation of a historic marker at the cemetery in 2020.
