Mehaffey was the daughter of Terah C. and Ella J. Mehaffey. She graduated from [[Ensley High School]] in [[1910]]. She was a member of the college's "Shelbourne Literary Society" and taught foreign languages at Howard while she was working toward her degree. She remained on the faculty after receiving her diploma on [[May 24]], [[1916]].

Lula Mehaffey

Lula B. Mehaffey Connell (born February 7, 1895; died April 9, 1988) was the first female graduate of Howard College.

Mehaffey was the daughter of Terah C. and Ella J. Mehaffey. She graduated from Ensley High School in 1910. She was a member of the college's "Shelbourne Literary Society" and taught foreign languages at Howard while she was working toward her degree. She remained on the faculty after receiving her diploma on May 24, 1916.

Lula Mehaffey Connell died in 1988 and is buried at Oak Hill Cemetery.
