• January 4: John Roden, sculptor
• September 11: Lynn Edwards Angell, Birmingham native, librarian, died in the hijacking of American Airlines Flight 11.
• September 11: Bill Goldshalk, University of Alabama alumnus, accountant, died in his office in Building 2 of the World Trade Center during the terrorist attacks.
