Help Lightning
Help Lightning is a technology firm headed by Gary York which distributes "virtual expertise" software, allowing medical and technical experts to provide remote support by "merged reality," superimposing live video streams with field workers. With more than 50,000 users in 90 countries, Help Lightning is a leader in the field of augmented reality.
Help Lightning got its start as an idea from UAB Medical Center neurosurgeon and inventor Bart Guthrie. The company was established in 2016 with offices in Birmingham's Innovation Depot.
The company saw a multi-fold increase in demand for its technology during the 2020 Coronavirus pandemic. In August 2020 Resolve Growth Partners of Baltimore, Maryland led an $8 million funding round to raise capital for Help Lightning to expand its operations. An additional $3 in growth capital funds was secured in May 2021.
