- 1949: Baylor defeated Wake Forest 20-7 in the final Dixie Bowl at Legion Field.
- 1948: Arkansas defeated William & Mary 21-19 in the first Dixie Bowl.
- 1947: The city's first FM station, WAFM-FM went on the air.
- 1916: The Florence Hotel was closed.
- 1910: Elyton, Ensley, Wylam and other communities became part of the city of Birmingham as part of the Greater Birmingham legislation.
