2013 Birmingham homicides
This is a List of Birmingham homicides in 2013. It includes homicide cases occuring within the city limits during the calendar year. Note that a "homicide" refers to the cause of death as determined by a medical examiner, not to the commission of the crime of murder as charged by police and prosecutors.
A total of 5 homicides have been reported in the city as of January 21, putting the city on pace for 87 for the year. Based on the 2012 census estimate of 206,926 population, that would represent 42.0 homicides per 100,000 population. Birmingham had 75 homicides in 2012, a record low of 62 in 2011, 63 in 2010, and a record high of 141 in 1992. At this time in 2012, there had been 3 homicides reported.
There have been an average of 7.4 homicides per month, or one every 4.2 days. There have been 5 incidents so far in January. The longest stretch without a homicide was the 7 days between December 31 and January 6. 3 deaths were reported on Sundays, 1 on a Monday, 0 on Tuesdays, 0 on Wednesdays, 1 on a Thursday, 0 on Fridays and 0 on Saturdays.
Of the 5 reported homicides, suspects have been identified in 4 cases, apprehended in 3, and charged in 3. One suspect was found dead on the scene. 2 of the chargeable homicides were caused by reckless driving rather than malice aforethought.
At least 3 of the 5 reported homicides were shootings and 2 resulted from auto collisions. 3 incidents took place on the streets and 2 at private homes. 2 deaths were the result of reckless driving, 1 originated as a domestic argument, and 1 was the result of a robbery. 3 victims were male and 2 were female.

- January 6: Kayla Nicole Jackson, 21, was killed along with her son in an auto collision on the overpass at Jefferson Avenue and 24th Street Southwest. The driver, Brandon Levoy Davis, is suspected of driving recklessly and was charged with manslaughter. (report)
- January 6: Zion Milik Jackson, 3, was killed in the same collision.
- January 10: Dorelayn Rachell Pate, 46, and Charisse Michelle Hearns, 48, long-time roommates, were found dead in their home at 1336 Americana Drive in Winewood after an apparent murder-suicide. (report)
- January 14: James Burke McConnell, 44, was found shot to death in a car parked in an alley near the El Centarrio night club on the 1100 block of 3rd Avenue West. Investigators initially believed the gunshot might have been self-inflicted, but it was later ruled a homicide. McConnell was apparently soliciting for a prostitute when he was targeted for robbery and murder. Bridgett Bradley and William Brown were charged with capital murder. (report)
- January 20: An unnamed male was found shot to death in the yard of a house at 9113 14th Avenue North. No arrest. (report)
