Alabama State Senate District 19 covers parts of west-central Jefferson County. It includes the cities of Adamsville, Bessemer, Brighton, Brookside, Cardiff, Fairfield, Forestdale, Hueytown, Lipscomb, part of Pleasant Grove, part of the Ensley community of Birmingham as well as the communities of Bayview, Docena, Edgewater, McDonald Chapel, Minor, Mount Olive, Mulga, and Sandusky.

District 19 was most recently represented by E. B. McClain, who was elected to the seat in 1994 and vacated it on January 21, 2009 after being convicted on federal charges of conspiracy, mail fraud money laundering and bribery.

2009 special election

A special election to fill the seat vacated by McClain was held on May 12, 2009 with a runoff on June 30. With no Republican candidate for the seat, the winner of the primary election will take the seat.
