The Kenneth A. Clemons Recreational Complex (formerly the Gardendale Soccer Complex) is home to Gardendale youth and adult Soccer programs, as well as the Celebration Park Playground, Pavilion and Splash Pad area. Recent additions also include a trail system, dog park, and disc golf course. The complex currently has 57 acres and is located on the southern end of Fieldstown Road, about 2 1/2 miles west of I-65. The address of the complex is 2191 Fieldstown Road, Gardendale, AL 35071.
It is named for Kenny Clemons, who served as Mayor of Gardendale from 1996 to 2008.
History
The complex was originally created in 2003 as the Gardendale Soccer Complex and had two, regulation size soccer fields.
The main soccer field "Farley Field" was named for Sherry and Randy Farley on July 9, 2007 for their countless hours and diligent efforts in providing the children of Gardendale with a place to learn, grow and love the game of soccer.
In 2007, Celebration Park was created as a playground for children. It was dedicated on May 4, 2007.
In 2008, a splash pad was added to Celebration Park as a place for children to enjoy water fun and amusement. It was dedicated on September 19, 2008.
In 2016, the Little Free Library was built by Julian Burkett of Boy Scout Troop 100 as part of his Eagle Scout Service Project. Burkett built a pair of handcrafted, weather-proof bookcases and installed them on the side of the Soccer Field concession stand. The ribbon cutting ceremony was held on January 17, 2016.
In 2017, the Gardendale Urban Trail System (GUTS) was created as an urban trail system. It was dedicated March 8, 2017.
