Energen Corporation (NYSE:EGN) was a Birmingham-based publicly-traded energy company that operated an oil and gas exploration company and a natural gas utility company.

Energen sold off its Alabama Gas Corporation (Alagasco) subsidiary to The Laclede Group of St Louis, Missouri for $1.35 billion in 2014. The utility was later rebranded as Spire.

The remaining oil and gas exploration business, operating as the Energen Resources Corporation was acquired by Diamondback Energy, Inc. of Midland, Texas in 2018 for $9.2 billion.
