The Five Mile Creek Greenway in Fultondale is a 3.5-mile long segment of the 16.5-mile Five Mile Creek Greenway which follows the path of the abandoned Cane Creek Branch rail corridor through northern and western Jefferson County. The recreational trail, which opened in 2013, welcomes runners, walkers, cyclists and pets, but not motorized vehicles.
Fultondale's greenway trailhead is located in Black Creek Park near the Fultondale Senior Center on Yarbrough Road. The graded, gravel-paved path is marked by signs at each half-mile point, with benches at each milepost. It follows the north bank of Black Creek westward, under the Old U.S. 31 and Decatur Highway bridges and then crosses Stouts Road near the Bark Park and Children's Park. After passing beneath I-65 the trail bends to the northwest. Fultondale's section terminates at Shady Grove Road between Easterwood Boulevard and Franklin Circle, where the Gardendale segment begins.
