The graded, gravel-paved path is marked by signs at each half-mile point, with benches at each milepost. It follows the north bank of Black Creek westward, under the Old U.S. 31 and Decatur Highway bridges and then crosses Stouts Road near the Bark Park and Children's Park. After passing beneath I-65 the trail bends to the northwest. Fultondale's section terminates at Shady Grove Road between Easterwood Boulevard and Franklin Circle, where the Gardendale segment begins.
