Gus's Hot Dogs

Gus's Hot Dogs can refer to one of several hot dog stands in the Birmingham area. Gus Alexander, a Greek immigrant, opened the first location on 4th Avenue North in 1947. When Alexander moved back to Greece in the 1960s, Alex Choraitis took over the store.
It is currently owned by George Nasiakos, who was invited by Choraitis to come to Birmingham and take over the store in the mid 1990s. Like Alexander, Nasiakos is originally from Greece, and Choraitis is a descendant of earlier immigrants from that land. The restaurant provides on its basic hot dogs the special ketchup-based, spiced sauce found at all the hot dog stands in the Birmingham area established by people from Greek backgrounds.
