Help Lightning is a technology firm headed by Gary York which distributes "virtual expertise" software, allowing medical and technical experts to provide remote support by "merged reality," superimposing live video streams with field workers. With more than 50,000 users in 90 countries, Help Lightning is a leader in the field of augmented reality.

Help Lightning got its start as an idea from UAB Medical Center neurosurgeon and inventor Bart Guthrie. The company was established in 2016 with offices in Birmingham's Innovation Depot.
