Jeffrey Stephen Roberts (born March 6, 1961 in Birmingham; died November 13, 2012) was a long-term part-time photographer for The Birmingham News.
Roberts grew up in the Concord area and attended Concord Elementary School. As a young photographer he considered photojournalist Spider Martin a mentor.
Roberts joined the News staff in May 1993. Roberts captured an iconic photograph of the devastation caused by the April 2011 tornado outbreak in Concord. The photo, showing Faye Hyde huddled on a mattress with her grandchildren amid piles of wreckage, won first place in the Southern Newspaper Publishers Association 2011 Photo of the Year contest for spot news and was selected as "Photo of the Year" for the Associated Press Member Showcase.
Later that year he was laid off as the News downsized as part of the Alabama Media Group. Shortly after being let go, he was diagnosed with cancer which claimed his life the following November.
