This article is about the football player. For the Virginia College executive, see Jim Tolbert (Virginia College). Love James Tolbert (born March 12, 1944 in Fairfield) is a former professional football defensive back.

Tolbert graduated from Fairfield Industrial High School and played college football for Lincoln University in Jefferson City, Missouri.

He was selected by the San Diego Chargers in the 7th round of the American Football League draft in 1966 and remained with the team through the AFL/NFL merger.

He played for the Houston Oilers in 1972 and the St Louis Cardinals between 1973 and 1975. He returned to the Chargers for his final season, retiring in 1976.
