Mark Sullivan

Mark A. Sullivan (born c. 1966 in Birmingham) is superintendent of Birmingham City Schools.

Sullivan grew up in Birmingham and graduated from Woodlawn High School. He completed a bachelor of science in elementary education at Alabama A&M University and a master's in education at Alabama State University. He has since completed an educational specialist degree and a doctorate in educational leadership at UAB.

Sullivan began his career teaching fifth graders at Dupuy Elementary School and later taught math at Center Street Middle School. He was appointed principal of Spaulding Elementary School, and then promoted to the system's central office as an area director. He served as interim principal of Elyton Elementary School, principal of Glen Iris Elementary School, Phillips Academy, and Ramsay High School. He also served as an interim assistant superintendent, academic officer and chief of staff.
