He was president of the Maple Grove neighborhood assocation from 2000 to 2002 and ran unsuccessfully in the 1998 Birmingham City Council election and for a State Senate seat in the 2006 election. He also unsuccessfully ran as a candidate for Birmingham City Council District 2 in the 2009 Birmingham City Council election on a platform of public safety, transit, schools and road improvements. In that race, he came in sixth out of seven candidates.
