ServisFirst Bank (or Servis1st) was founded in Birmingham in May 2005. ServisFirst President and founder Tom Broughton has spent his entire 28 year banking career in Birmingham, most notably as co-founder and President of First Commercial Bank.

ServisFirst was organized with $35 million in capital, the largest capitalization of any start-up bank in the state's history. In March, 2007 the bank announced that it had surpassed assets of $600 million, having reached that mark well in advance of the pace needed to meet its goal of $1 billion in assets in its first 5-10 years.

By the end of that year its assets topped $700 million and it employed more than 120 people. That year the bank was given the John S. Jemison Venture Award by the Venture Club.

The bank's first location and corporate offices are located at 3300 Cahaba Road in Mountain Brook, near US Highway 280 and Colonial Brookwood Village. Branch offices have been opened downtown at 324 21st Street North and at 5403 U. S. Highway 280 in Greystone. Another branch and a second corporate office are located in Huntsville.

One of the services which marks the bank's approach is placing breadbox-sized devices at client businesses that allow them to scan and deposit checks directly.
