** The 1922 directory is a 1,370 page PDF file, 457 megabytes.  And the first page is blank, making it non-obvious that it has successfully loaded until you scroll down.  But the good news is that it's text searchable (mostly)!  The bad news is too much information.  For example, I doubt we want to list 39 separate businesses that had offices within the Lyric Theatre's office space.  And that's just 1922!  (Perhaps a separate page with a sortable table for Lyric Building tenants?)  I'm now trying to load the 1924 one. --Lkseitz 09:09, 19 March 2012 (PDT)

*I'm glad you pointed that page out to me. Maybe we can collaborate on merging the two somehow. And, on a side note, I've managed to lose the tinkerings page, in that I can't figure out how to find it. The main reason I made it was that I really want to get more involved in the wiki than I have been, but at the same time, I don't want to create random pages about things that only I would find interesting (I actually had an idea for a page running down the styles of street signage used in the city). I really enjoy feedback, and I also love being a part of this project. --Jared Johnson 12:28, 16 April 2012 (PDT)

Sterling Foster

  • I meant to have taken the dates from the SHPC page. I must have used the wrong set. My bad. --Dystopos 15:33, 9 April 2010 (PDT)

Templates

  • It might be a good idea to start a Bhamwiki:Templates page to document what's available. --Dystopos 09:52, 27 April 2010 (PDT)
    • Agreed. I'll see if I can get to it soon. --Lkseitz 11:50, 27 April 2010 (PDT)
    • Behold, Bhamwiki:Templates. Kinda lengthy, but there you go. BTW, Bhamwiki:Licensing templates needs to be updated and I don't have permissions to do it. --Lkseitz 15:19, 4 May 2010 (PDT)
      • Awesome. I took the lazy way out and unprotected it. (I still have two years of homicide prosecutions to review, and then the Birmingham Americans...) --Dystopos 15:23, 4 May 2010 (PDT)
        • Okay, Bhamwiki:Licensing templates is updated, Bhamwiki:Media templates has been written, and the media templates categorized into their own category. It looks like ads, logos, and programs still need media templates, as those three types of things still have individual fair use templates. I suspect it was something you were going to do, took a break from, and then forgot about. I might work on it in the future, but not today. If you want to, I think the following templates can be deleted, but you might want to double-check that we're not using them: Template:Fair use-Book,Template:Fair use-CD, and Template:Fair use-Program. --Lkseitz 12:12, 5 May 2010 (PDT)
          • I'm intimidated by the number of edits needed to replace the logo template. Any ideas? --Dystopos 14:09, 5 May 2010 (PDT)
            • I hadn't looked at the numbers. Over 600, eh? Well, maybe logos can just continue to be a special case, then. And in case you were wondering why I said the program fair use template could be deleted, I meant to say Template:Fair use-Postcard. (And it's redirect, Template:Fair use-Post card.) Sorry, I trimmed the wrong thing after I copied & pasted. --Lkseitz 07:32, 6 May 2010 (PDT)

4th Avenue

  • Right on. I started that article once, but didn't take care to save intermittently (or to compose it in wordpad or something) and lost it to a power interruption. That kind of thing leaves a bad taste in my mouth. --Dystopos 16:48, 9 August 2010 (PDT)
    • Yeah, I hate losing work like that and also really hate redoing it. I was looking at the wanted pages list and 4th Avenue North was the highest ranked article that wasn't a year or a big event (e.g. World War II), so I thought I'd knock it out. --Lkseitz 10:43, 10 August 2010 (PDT)
      • I'm so glad to hear you're working on that WWII article, now! Here's a template (EofA) and a good read: (0817350276) --Dystopos 11:05, 10 August 2010 (PDT)
        • Nice try, but I wouldn't know to begin how to summarize World War II for Bhamwiki. I think 1978 is more of a scale that I could handle. --Lkseitz 11:19, 10 August 2010 (PDT)

1978 or 1977?

All of your "Context" entries on the 1978 page reference 1977 but they do not match the Context entries on the 1977 page. I am confused. --Wheresdib 14:35, 27 August 2010 (PDT)

  • It's called, "I copied from 1977 and removed all but the beginnings of the sentences, then forgot to change the year as I filled it out." Fixed now. --Lkseitz 14:46, 27 August 2010 (PDT)
  • I figured but wasn't 100% sure. --Wheresdib 14:54, 27 August 2010 (PDT)

RReach reverts

When you reverted Ray Reach's web site listings, you also removed several album covers he'd added previously (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6). Was that intentional? --Lkseitz 11:31, 26 January 2011 (PST)

  • No. Oops. --Dystopos 11:32, 26 January 2011 (PST)
    • Fixed 'em. --Lkseitz 15:14, 26 January 2011 (PST)
      • You're a peach. --Dystopos 15:16, 26 January 2011 (PST)

BBSs

  • Bring it. --Dystopos 19:53, 5 August 2011 (PDT)

Almanac

  • Got a pamphlet, "Alabama Anniversary: 365 Events of Significance in the History of Alabama" prepared by the Alabama Historical Association, published by WAPI-WAFM-WABT in 1953. --Dystopos

1922 & 1924 Bham city directories

  • Supposedly online, but I'm not having success viewing them. (link) --Dystopos 05:16, 17 March 2012 (PDT)
    • The 1922 directory is a 1,370 page PDF file, 457 megabytes. And the first page is blank, making it non-obvious that it has successfully loaded until you scroll down.
