He earned a bachelor's degree in 1973 at the Birmingham-Easonian Baptist Bible College and a master's degree in 1988 from Berean Christian College. In 2010 Hardley became one of 14 candidates to qualify for a special election to fill the Jefferson County Commission District 1 seat left vacant when William Bell became Mayor of Birmingham.
