Mervyn Sterne

Mervyn Hayden Sterne (born August 2, 1892 in Anniston, Calhoun County; died August 11, 1973 in Birmingham) was a securities broker, founder of M. H. Sterne & Company and partner the firm known as Sterne Agee before it was acquired by Stifel in 2015. He was also a tireless civic leader, remembered for having led efforts in the 1920s to establish better funding for public schools in Alabama. UAB's Mervyn H. Sterne Library is named in his memory.
